A ritual narrative experience about wind,

where the ordinary is suspended for a certain time,

and a magic moment occurs.

In the context of the covid-19 pandemic, normal life has suddenly been changed, and people are worried about various uncertainties. Akapu as an art community focused on urban and rural sustainable development, aims to create a spiritual sanctuary, where people can take their MIND OFF of their worries, if only for a moment. I was selected as a curator and designer from their Artist Recruitment Program, to develop a series of artistic practices, and a retrospective exhibition.

planned individually, and constructed with the support of others,

resulting in four main outcomes:

  1. A booklet to document the image of wind

  2. Wearable installation to present a new perspective of wind

  3. Interactive Installation to bring hope to people with wind

  4. Spatial Installation to create a “shelter” moment with wind

Material Testing: To capture the moment of wind, a reflective mirrored TPU film was selected as the medium. This material is strong, stain-resistant, very light, easily shaped by the wind, and its reflective properties could also render the dynamic moments of wind.

A Booklet to document the image of wind: To capture and preserve every moment of the wind as an image, documenting how wind is presented, how people feel about it, and detailing the wind speed, date, and location at that time. The document journey starts from the wilderness to the countryside. A 30-days digital diary was also set up on social media.

A wearable installation which uses my body as a part of the medium to present wind by walking through different public spaces in the city. As the body is moving, the wind is coming. Two small fans begin to rotate while a screen displays real-time wind speed on the top. At the same time, the material hanging above the installation will rise up and flutter with the wind.

Interactive Installation: Conceptually, the wind symbolizes spreading life and bringing hope, and the windmill with its graceful presence, always evoke mindfulness and tranquility. To redraw this power of the wind, people could entrust their emotions to the wind by blowing the windmill on the installation to make it spin, and receive a physical blessing card generated by wind speed.
